Municipal Ticket Information (MTI)

Ultimately, when efforts at obtaining compliance with City bylaws have failed, Bylaw Enforcement Officers must decide whether the contravention of the bylaws requires enforcement of the bylaw by issuance of a MTI. MTIs are issued for both parking violations and municipal bylaw violations.

Fines & Payments

For MTI information and fine amounts, please refer to the City of Fernie Municipal Ticket Information Bylaw. If you've received a MTI ticket from the City of Fernie, the process to pay for a ticket by cash, cheque (payable to the City of Fernie) or debit card is as follows:

  • in person at City Hall, 501-3rd Avenue, Fernie BC; or
  • by mail to: City of Fernie, PO Box 190, Fernie BC V0B1M0, Attention: Bylaw Services.

Your payment must be accompanied by a copy of the ticket, or a note giving sufficient information to identify the ticket, including:

  • the TICKET NUMBER (from the top right corner on the face of this ticket);
  • your FULL NAME and MAILING ADDRESS;
  • the DATE OF OFFENCE and the BYLAW NAME and SECTION of the offence.

What Happens if I do not Pay?

If the fine is not paid or the allegation contained in this ticket is not disputed (see below) within 14 days from the date of service of this ticket, you will be deemed to have pleaded guilty to the offence charged and the fine amount will be immediately payable.

Tickets that remain unpaid thirty (30) days after being deemed guilty will be sent off to collections.

Disputes

To dispute a municipal ticket, you must complete a MTI Ticket Dispute Form, available online or at the front counter at City Hall. Once the form is completed and submitted to the City Clerk, your dispute will be reviewed and the City will advise you of the decision within seven (7) business days.

How Much Time Do I Have to Dispute?

If you wish to dispute, you have up to fourteen (14) days from the date of service shown on the face of the ticket to deliver, have delivered or mail your notice of dispute. Your notice of dispute must be postmarked on or before the 14th day from the date of service of the ticket.

What Happens After My Dispute Has Been Received?

You will receive notice in the mail from the Provincial Court Registry informing you of the time and location of your hearing. If you do not attend the Court on the indicated date, the ticket will be treated as not disputed, you will be deemed to have pleaded guilty to the offence charged and the fine amount will be immediately payable.
