Outdoor Patio Licence
The City of Fernie supports local businesses by allowing approved patios on municipal land. These patios are regulated under the Expansion of Local Business onto Municipal Land and Highways Policy to ensure they remain safe, accessible, and respectful of shared public spaces.
All patio installations are reviewed and approved by the City to balance business use with pedestrian access and community enjoyment of public areas.
How to Apply
Businesses interested in operating a patio on municipal land must submit a Patio Licence application to the City of Fernie. Applications must include all required documentation, such as site plans and any supporting materials outlined in the policy.
City staff will review submissions to ensure compliance with safety, accessibility, and design requirements. Applicants will be notified of any additional information needed and of the final decision. Approval must be received prior to installing or operating a patio on municipal property.
