The City of Fernie is in the process of updating the current playground structure located at the Max Turyk Community Centre. The City of Fernie (the "City") is seeking proposals from qualified firms for the design, supply and installation of playground equipment at the Max Turyk Community Centre.
The Max Turyk Community Centre is located in the southeast corner of Fernie on the grounds of a former Elementary School. A mix of single family and multifamily residential neighborhoods dominate the area. The former elementary school has recently been repurposed by the City as a Community Centre providing formal and informal recreation and social programs and services (ex. Pre School Elementary Program, After School Program, Dance Program). The new playground installation will serve the surrounding neighborhood and visitors to the Max Turyk Community Centre.
The existing site is 25m x30m (picture attached) and should be designed with the following considerations:
- Appeal to ages 2-12 and outline child capacity and age appropriate components on the respective equipment.
- Have as large of play area /surface as possible.
- Meet or exceed all CSA Standards.
- 300mm pea gravel protective surfacing or other suitable option.
- Concrete edging or other suitable option.
- Posts will have rounded corners for safety and strength.
- Galvanized steel post will have corrosion barrier and be heat resistant on exterior and interior of pipe.
- Polyethylene components will be UV treated and electrically grounded to reduce/eliminate electrostatic shock.
- Cables to be galvanized and urethane finished.
- Have no clamp system to avoid pinch points.
- Metallic surfaces will have an electrostatic powder coating.
Playground equipment at a minimum should include:
- Nature theme
- Swings
- Climbing features
- Tunnels incorporated into ply structur
- The latest concepts in playground design
