Fernie Community Centre Abatement

Proposals marked “Fernie Community Centre Abatement” will be received at the City of Fernie, City Hall, PO Box 190, 501-3rd Avenue, Fernie, BC, up to 2:00 PM local time, December 22, 2025 for the provision of qualified and experienced hazardous materials abatement contractors to complete the removal, handling, and disposal of identified hazardous building materials within the Fernie Community Centre located at 902 BC-3, Fernie, BC. The abatement work is required to support ongoing facility assessment, risk mitigation, and future planning following the building’s closure due to significant structural, environmental, and air quality concerns. 

Comprehensive hazardous materials inspections and analytical testing have confirmed the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), lead-based coatings, and other hazardous substances within the facility. These materials must be safely removed in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations, applicable federal and provincial legislation, and industry best practices.
