Events on City Property Require a Permit

If you are planning a Special Event that requires use of City facilities, including parks, sidewalks or streets, please submit a Special Events Application form to recreation@fernie.ca.

Community Events (or larger scale events): 
Festivals, concerts, parades, events open to the public

Private Event (or small scale):
Weddings, private functions, events not open to the public

May be booked up to one year in advance 		 Year Round 60 days prior to the event date

Annual Recurring Event
Annual event of any type, with no significant 
changes from the previous year


May be booked up to three years in advance

 Year Round 6 months prior to event date

A completed application must be submitted to secure an event date and facility.  

Mobile Food Vendors / Food Trucks

All mobile food vendors operating at a Special Event must be pre-approved and listed on the event permit prior to the event date. Event organizers are responsible for submitting vendor details for approval, including business name and contact information.

Each food vendor must provide valid documentation as required, which may include:

  • Current health/food service permit (Interior Health or applicable authority)
  • Valid municipal/provincial business licence (if applicable)
  • Proof of insurance naming the City of Fernie as additional insured
  • Any other permits required under applicable bylaws or provincial regulations

Approval to be listed on a Special Event Permit authorizes participation at the specific event only and does not exempt vendors from other regulatory requirements.

Unapproved vendors are not permitted to operate at Special Events.
