Notice of Public Hearing - Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 2535 and Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2536

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT a Bylaw to amend Official Community Plan No. 2231 and Zoning Bylaw No.1750 has been scheduled for public hearing on TUESDAY, February 17, 2026, at 6:30 PM at the Senior Citizens Drop In Centre located at 562 – 3rd Avenue, Fernie, BC.  Council meetings, including public hearings are available for all members of the public to attend or watch electronically via a Zoom webinar link posted to the City of Fernie website prior to the meeting. LOCATION: Portion of 1500 5th Avenue (Prentice Park)

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Portion of Lot 1, District Lot 4588, Kootenay District Plan 8097 Except Part in Plan NEP21661

PURPOSE: To amend the following sections of the Official Community Plan Bylaw No 2231:

  • to include “Fernie Fire Hall” as a key institutional use in Section 9-B.9;
  • to amend Schedule B: Land Use Designations for a portion of the subject project from Parks to Institutional; and,
  • to amend Schedule D: Parks, Trails, Facilities and Open Space Network by removing the area shown as “park” and replace a facility labeled as “Fernie Fire Hall” on a portion of the subject property.

To amend the following sections of the Zoning Bylaw No 1750:

  • to include “emergency services” as a permitted use in the Public Institutional zone; and
  • amend Schedule ‘A’ – Zoning Map of the bylaw to rezone a portion of the subject property from P2 – Parks and Open Space to P1 – Public Institutional.
