New Noise Regulations in Effect
October 15, 2026
The City has updated its Community Standards Bylaw to provide clearer standards around noise.
Quiet hours have changed from 12-midnight-6:30 a.m. daily, to between 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily.
Construction activity that creates noise is now restricted to occur between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. daily.
The updated bylaw also prohibits certain disruptive noises at any time, including:
- vehicles without functioning mufflers or with altered mufflers that increase noise;
- excessive horn use, squealing tires, unattended vehicle alarms, air horns and engine brakes; and
- electronic or mechanical devices to frighten or deter wildlife.
Fines for violation range from $100 to $250 depending on the offence and go up to $500 for subsequent offences.
Certain essential and permitted activities are exempt, including emergency response, avalanche control, municipal maintenance such as snow removal and garbage collection, emergency repairs, and approved special events.
