Remembering our Colleagues

October 16, 2026

October 17 marks the anniversary of the Arena Tragedy. The flags at City Hall are flying at half-mast today in remembrance of the lives lost at Fernie Memorial Arena on October 17, 2017.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and colleagues of Wayne Hornquist, Lloyd Smith, and Jason Podloski.

City facilities will be closed from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to give staff the opportunity to gather and remember Wayne, Lloyd, and Jason.
