Proposed Amendments to the Municipal Ticket Information Bylaw

The City of Fernie is proposing updates to its Municipal Ticket Information (MTI) Bylaw to better align with the new Building and Plumbing Bylaw adopted in 2025.
The proposed amendments would expand the range of ticketed infractions and increase fine amounts, which have not been updated since 2006. The changes reflect inflation, the rising administrative costs of enforcement, and the significant staff time required to address non-compliance. Updated fines, generally set at $500 or $1,000, are intended to strengthen deterrence, support fair cost recovery, and encourage compliance with municipal building regulations.
