Flood Watch Update

The Flood Watch for the Elk Valley remains in place. Fernie is expected to see rain and thunderstorms starting this evening with sustained rainfall over the next few days.
River levels are expected to continue to rise with the rainfall and melting snowpack, with the potential to cause flooding conditions.
We're advising residents to stay well back from rivers and creeks when water levels are high and during extreme weather events as water levels can change rapidly.
The City has activated its flood response plan and is ready to respond to changing conditions. We are continuing to monitor river levels and forecasts and will provide daily updates as the situation progresses.
If you are concerned about localized flooding, you can access the City’s self-fill sandbag station next to the City’s Operations yard on Railway Ave. Bags are provided, please bring your own shovel and gloves.
