Community Bins Service Review and Input Opportunity

The City of Fernie provides four bear resistant bins around town that are accessible 24/7 for public use. These community bins are made available in addition to the curbside waste collection program, allowing residents to dispose of garbage if they miss their collection day or do not have a secure space to store garbage between collections.

These bins are now seeing frequent misuse including disposal of large household items, furniture, and commercial waste. This reduces available capacity, limits access for users, and results in overflowing bins and dumping of garbage outside of the bins.

Due to these challenges, the Community Bins Service cannot continue in its current form, and we are seeking your feedback to help inform the future of the service.
