City Light Standards to Receive Energy Efficient Upgrade

We are converting over 200 light standards into LED technology to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Starting mid-November, contractors will be replacing City-owned streetlights throughout our community, identifiable by their decorative metal pole. This project follows BC Hydro’s 2020-2023 province-wide program to replace BC Hydro-owned streetlights with LEDs.

The replacement is expected to wrap up in January and once complete, is estimated to result in $20,000 of energy and replacement cost savings, annually. BC Hydro is also providing a one-time incentive of nearly $40,000 to help cover initial fixture replacement costs.

To help reduce the perceived difference in lighting, the LEDs were selected based on existing lighting levels and wattage with careful review of colour temperature, also referred to as warmth.
