Budget 2026 Public Input Opportunity

The City of Fernie is continuing through the annual budget process, and we are looking for your feedback.

The Draft 2026 Budget is guided by Council's Strategic Plan, the need to maintain and replace our infrastructure and assets, and priorities expressed by the community. The budget focuses protecting core services and maintaining community support, contributing to reserves to help minimize year-over-year spikes in taxation in the future, and investing in planning and development to improve permitting process.

After considering revenues and expenses, the draft budget projects a preliminary short fall of $409,313, and if approved as presented, would result in a 4.03% residential property tax increase.

In addition to the Draft 2026 Budget, Council will also consider unbudgeted asks, including increased funding for community partners and reserve contributions. The preliminary tax increase could rise based on Council’s direction at the March 10 Council Meeting.

Find out what this means for you in the 2026 Budget at a Glance, tell us what is important to you through our new interactive budget tool, and provide your comments on the budget by March 8. Feedback will be presented to Council for consideration at the upcoming Council Meeting, where Council will provide direction on the draft budget.

You can join us online, or in person, March 10 at the Senior Citizen’s Drop-in Centre at 6:30p.m.
