Annual Stage 1 Water Restrictions in Effect
April 7, 2026
The City of Fernie uses a staged water restriction system, with restrictions that increase gradually in response to weather conditions, water demand, and available supply. Stage 1 restrictions are in effect each year from March 1 to October 15, with higher stages implemented only if conditions require further conservation measures.
Stage 1 Water Restrictions:
- Lawn watering: permitted three days per week, for two hours maximum, 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. OR 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.:
- EVEN numbered addresses: Monday, Thursday, Saturday.
- ODD numbered addresses: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday.
- NO watering on Wednesdays.
- Washing personal vehicles and outdoor surfaces (driveways, sidewalks, windows) is permitted with a handheld shutoff nozzle.
- Watering of food producing gardens and plants is exempt at this stage.
- Daily watering of new sod, seeds, grass allowed with a Permit.
Our water use regulations are important tools to ensure that we operate within the capacity of our drinking water system, protect our infrastructure, maintain high quality drinking water, and have the required water flow for fire suppression.
