Accessibility Improvements Happening at the Fernie Memorial Arena
October 13, 2026
We’re proud to share that we’ve been selected as a recipient of an RBC Barrier Buster Grant to improve the physical accessibility of the Fernie Memorial Arena. Our Barrier Buster Project will help address accessibility barriers in our space and support greater inclusion for everyone who uses it.
The accessibility grant of $40,000 will be used to improve accessibility at the Arena by replacing asphalt at the entrance to ensure smoother safer access, upgrading to automatic doors with accessible push button controls, and purchasing a comfort-sled to offer more inclusive and accessible recreation opportunities.
As a grant recipient, the City is also receiving a Permobil wheelchair for visitor, participant, and community use at City facilities.
While these improvements are underway, the main entrance to the Arena will be temporarily closed. Please access the Arena through the doors beside the concession.
