2026 Elkview Crescent Groundwater Study
May 11, 2026
Several residents on Elkview Crescent have been experiencing challenges with groundwater in their basements for many years. The City of Fernie has engaged a hydrogeological consultant (ISL Engineering) to investigate the groundwater movement in the area to help determine likely causes of groundwater influx into basements and potential mitigation options.
The scope of this study will include the following:
- Background information review and desktop study (currently ongoing)
- Drilling groundwater monitoring wells in the study area (summer 2026)
- Data analysis and reporting (2027)
The drilling program will include four drill holes located on City property around Elkview Crescent. The drilling locations will be identified as part of the current desktop study. These locations as well as the planned drilling program dates will be communicated once they are confirmed.

Instrumentation will be installed in each drill hole for continuous groundwater level monitoring. This data will be tracked for a minimum of one year to identify seasonal fluctuations in groundwater levels.
After one year of groundwater monitoring, our consultant will prepare reports summarizing their findings. Both a technical report and a resident information package will be publicly available.
