2026 Draft Budget Receives Initial Readings

Council gave initial readings to the Financial Plan (2026–2030) Bylaw at the March 17 Special Meeting. The bylaw is scheduled for third reading on March 24.

At the March 10 Meeting, Council directed Staff to prepare a draft budget to include a 6.68% property tax increase. The increase will cover an operating shortfall of approximately $728,000. The initial shortfall presented on February 20, was roughly $413,909, which would have required a 4.03% tax increase. Following the operating and capital budget presentations, Council directed staff to include an additional $315,000 to support community partners and initiatives, enhance resources in key departmental areas, and increase contributions to reserves. These additions bring the total proposed tax increase to 6.68%.

The draft budget was developed using seven budget guidelines endorsed by Council in the fall. These guidelines were shaped in part by public feedback and include protecting core service delivery and maintaining service levels and staffing levels with any new spending formed around Council's priorities.
