Each year, the City supports community organizations that provide beneficial programs, services, and projects within our community through the Discretionary Grants program.
The City is proud to provide $8,000 to support the following groups and initiatives:
- Cycling Without Age Fernie Foundation $2,000
Funds will be used to support the free Trishaw rides for seniors and individuals with limited mobility to the outdoors. The funds will be used to support the annual cost of insurance.
- Elk River Watershed Alliance $2,000
Funds will be used to support the development and growth of the Elk River Watershed Alliance education program for youth in Fernie.
- Elk Valley Rugby Football Club $1,500
Funds will be used to support the annual Rucking in the Rockies rugby festival.
- Fernie Elks Lodge #81 $1,000
Funds will be used to fund renovating the hall washrooms.
- Ghostrider Adventure Camp Foundation $1,500
Funds will be used to support two at risk children to attend the one-week residential camp at no cost to the individual.
New for 2026, the Discretionary Grants policy has been amended to better fit the needs of the community and the groups that are applying. The City will now hold two intakes per year, and the eligibility criteria have been updated to allow for more flexible additional funding requirements.
The next intake for Discretionary Grants opens in March with $9,000 in available funding. Applications will be due on March 31, 2026.
