2026 Budget and Five-Year Financial Plan Adopted

On April 14 Council adopted the 2026 Budget and Five-Year Financial Plan.

The 2026 Budget focuses on maintaining essential infrastructure and continuing to deliver core services to the community. It also includes increased funding for community partners, higher contributions to reserves, and additional resources to strengthen staff capacity in support of Council’s strategic priorities.

This year’s budget includes a 6.68 per cent increase for residential properties in Fernie to cover an approximately $685,000 funding shortfall. For the average home in Fernie, assessed at $990,108, the increase equates to an additional $205.24 for the City portion of your tax bill.

This year we engaged with residents early in the budget process through an online survey surrounding community priorities.  We continued public engagement through several informal pop-up sessions around Fernie, with an accompanying interactive Budget activity on our Let’s Talk Fernie page. At the Special Meeting on March 17, a Public Input period was held for in person and online comment on the proposed budget and Five-Year Financial Plan.
