Water and Wastewater Utility Fees Increasing for 2026

Council has provided direction to proceed with water and wastewater utility rate increases for 2026. The proposed increases, 14.5% for water and 17% for wastewater, are driven by rising operating costs, inflation, the need to rebuild infrastructure reserves, and preparation for major future projects, including upgrades to the wastewater treatment system.

Unlike most City services, water and wastewater operations are fully funded by user fees, not property taxes, meaning all costs are covered by those who use the services. These fees support daily operations, system maintenance, and major infrastructure upgrades, ensuring reliable service today while avoiding sudden, much larger increases in the future.

For the average single-family home, the combined annual water and wastewater bill would increase by approximately $135 in 2026 from roughly $852 to $987.

Draft utility bylaws will be presented to Council in January 2026.
