Wastewater Update - Continued Improvement and Next Steps

Conditions within the City’s wastewater system continue to improve, even as a new weather system moves through the region bringing additional precipitation. Flows remain elevated, but the system is performing well. City crews continue to closely monitor while working through the required post-spill reporting from the emergency response.
We also want to share that a comprehensive Wastewater Treatment Compliance Design Project Update will be presented to Committee of the Whole tomorrow evening. This report provides important context on:
- How the City’s wastewater treatment system currently operates and the regulatory challenges;
- Work completed to date to improve performance and reliability;
- The multi-year upgrade plan required to meet provincial and federal regulations.
This update report reflects several years of engineering analysis, collaboration with provincial regulators, and recent operational improvements, and is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to a long-term solution for our community.
