Notice of Bylaw No. 2529 to Amend Short-Term Rental (STR) Fees

Notice is hereby given that on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Fernie Senior Citizens Drop-In Centre, 562 – 3rd Avenue, Fernie, BC, V0B 1M0, Council will be considering third reading of Bylaw No. 2529, to amend the Short-Term Rental (STR) Fees that are set out in the City of Fernie Business Licensing and Regulation Bylaw No. 2028.
Pursuant to Section 59(2)(b) of the Community Charter, any persons who consider they are affected by the bylaw are invited to make representations to Council through written submissions outlined below or attend in person to speak during the public participation period.

BYLAW: Business Licensing and Regulation Bylaw No. 2028, Amendment Bylaw No. 2529, 2025 (Bylaw No. 2529)
PURPOSE: To amend the STR fees to better reflect the cost of managing and enforcing STRs in our community.
• Fees charged are now differentiated between an STR “Primary Residence” and STR “Condo/Hotel Full Ownership”.
• The updated fees would support enforcement efforts and help offset City Staff time spent reviewing applications, verifying compliance, and addressing community concerns.
