Mountview Dike Phase 2 & Coal Creek Bin Wall Rehabilitation Project Update

The City’s Contractor, Vitae Environmental Construction Ltd. is moving onto Phase 2 work – the Coal Creek Section of Rehabilitation.

Next week, Vitae will begin repairs of the Bin Wall along Coal Creek. To do the work safety (for both the contractor, and the natural inhabitants of the creek), Coal Creek will be temporarily rerouted from its path hugging the wall to the opposite side of the creek bed for the duration of the rehabilitation work. Several of the bins that make up the bin wall will be repaired, and scour protection will be installed along the toe of the wall.

During this phase, the Coal Creek portion of the TransCanada Trail (the pathway on top of the Bin Wall) will be closed from the Cokato Rd access to Sharpes Field. Temporary closures to the south end of Dogwood Park, and to the pathway from the Dogwood Park Boat Launch will occur during this time as the contractor will need equipment access and material storage along the north shore of Coal Creek.

Access to the Dogwood Park Boat Launch will not be affected by this project. However, the community is advised to respect all marked closures, and give the crew space to safely do their work. The contractor anticipates this section will be under construction from July through September, these dates are set to limit the impacts to fish.

As work is completed, the contractor intends to re-open areas of the parks and trail network where possible. The contractor will continue to use Sharpes Field to store materials and heavy equipment. It will be closed to the public. Please respect all closures, follow detours, and give crews space to safely do their work.
