Pothole Patching Program

Each spring we see an increase in potholes on City streets due to freeze thaw cycles that cause sections of road to break apart and potholes to form.

As the snow melts and the weather gets nicer, our streets crews start repairing potholes that have formed on City roadways using recycled asphalt that we purchase and reheat to fill the potholes. This will be a primary focus over the coming months, alongside our street sweeping program. In the summer we have a more comprehensive pothole patching program to provide longer-term repairs in more challenging areas.

Potholes are dealt with in order of priority considering the size and severity of the pothole, and the road traffic volume of the location.

If you see a pothole that needs attention, you can let us know using the online Request for Service Tool fernie.ca/rfs
