It's Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada from May 7-13, 2023.
This year's theme in BC is 'If you're ready for an earthquake, you're ready for anything' and Emergency Management BC has lots of tips on how to make sure you and your family are ready in the event of an emergency.
Even in Fernie where there isn't a high risk of earthquakes, the steps to emergency preparedness are the same:

City of Fernie staff are trained in emergency management and are committed to supporting our community in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters through a coordinated and responsive emergency management program. We work closely with the highly skilled team of emergency management professionals at the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) when our region is impacted by an emergency.
