Fire Hall Moving to Temporary Location

Fernie Fire and Emergency Services is making the move this weekend to a temporary new Fire Hall at 1492 B Railway Ave.

The move from the current location at 692 3rd Ave is expected to be completed on Sunday, May 29 with the first full day at the new Fire Hall, adjacent to the City’s Operations Facility, planned for Monday, May 30. There will be no interruptions to emergency response while the move is being completed.

The current location has served as the City’s Fire Hall since 1979 and is no longer meeting the requirements of the department. Multiple reports have highlighted that the ageing structure requires significant costly updates, and changes in fire, building and occupational health and safety regulations have resulted in the need for the immediate implementation of this interim solution.

This move is planned as a temporary measure while a new purpose-built facility for the Fernie Fire and Emergency Services Department is designed and built.

For more information about the move to the temporary Fire Hall read the Council report from the December 2021 Committee of the Whole Meeting, and the report from consultant FireWise.

The temporary Fire Hall will have the same opening hours for the public: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm, and public parking will be available on site. All phone numbers will remain the same including the non-emergency number: 250-423-4226.

Burn permits will still be processed at this location, and Backyard Fire Pit permits can be applied for or renewed at City Hall.

The City is continuing to work with FireWise Consulting on designs for the new Fire Hall.
