Extreme Heat Preparedness

A heat wave is impacting British Columbia this week, and as high temperatures are forecasted into the weekend for the Elk Valley, it is a good time to refresh on how to ensure you are prepared for extreme heat.

The current heat warning for the East Kootenay does not include the Elk Valley, but Fernie is expected to see high temperatures through the weekend.

On thursday July 28, and Friday July 29, the Fernie Heritage Library is open from 11am-5pm and is air-conditioned for anyone looking for a place to cool down during the heat of the day.

Here are some additonal tips from Interior Health on how to stay cool: spray your body down with water, wear a damp shirt, take a cool shower or bath, or sit with part of your body in water to cool down. Go to a shaded park, or air conditioned public building.
