Fire Prevention Week 2021

Fire Prevention Week begins today, and theme of 2021 is Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety.

Can you recognize the different sounds a smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make? Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds is vital to keeping you and your family safe.

Hear a beep? Get on your feet! When you hear a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, be sure to get out of the building immediately, call 911, and stay out.

Hear a chirp? Make a change! A chirping alarm needs your attention, meaning it's time to replace the batteries in your smoke or carbon monoxide alarms.

  • Replace the entire unit if it's more than 10 years old.
  • If you can't remember how old the unit is, replace it!

The annual Fire Prevention Week poster and video contest is on again! The contest is open to all students from kindergarten to grade 12 who are attending a public or independent school in British Columbia.
