Water Levels at Seasonal Highs

UPDATE:
Morning monitoring (June 1, 7:00 AM) showed that water levels have dropped on Coal Creek, and levels on the Elk River continue to rise.
Evening monitoring and measurements (May 31, 9:00PM) show that the water levels on Coal Creek are holding steady.
Due to the high water levels, James White Park was closed completely this evening, as was the lower road to Dogwood Park (3rd St from 4A Ave to 6 Ave), and the Montane Trailhead Parking Lot.

Water levels are currently at seasonal high for the Elk River and above seasonal high for Coal Creek.
For public safety we have closed some sections of trail that are impacted by high water levels including: The Town Loop from the Dogwood Park Boat Launch to Park Ave. Bridge, and Park Ave. Bridge to Cokato Rd., sections in James White Park, and Maiden Lake to the Fernie RV Park.
City Crews continue to monitor water levels, and are following the protocols set out in our Flood Response Plan.
A public sandbagging station has been set up near the City of Fernie Operations Yard, and signage has been put up with guidelines for using the station during COVID-19. Please exercise caution around fast-moving water and take some time to ensure you are prepared in the event of a flood.
