Municipal Facility Closures Update

To assist Provincial measures aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 during the ongoing public health emergency, the City of Fernie has closed the following facilities:

City-operated Public Buildings 
City Hall, the Operations Facility, and the Fire Hall are closed to the public. Staff will  continue to work from these facilities to provide essential services and are available to answer questions or provide assistance by phone or email.

Recreation Facilities
The Fernie Aquatic Centre, Fernie Memorial Arena, and the Community Centre are closed. The Aquatic Centre and Community Centre are closed until further notice. The Fernie Memorial Arena will not re-open this season. Bookings for publicly rented areas at Max Turyk Community Centre are also cancelled. 

Playgrounds and Play Structures
All playgrounds and play structures in the City of Fernie are closed. This includes play structures in City of Fernie parks, as well as on school grounds. 

Sports Fields
All sports fields in the City of Fernie are closed. Please respect signage and do not access these spaces.

Public Washrooms
The Downtown Washrooms in Station Square have been closed. Rotary Park and Prentice Park Washrooms will remain closed. All cement outhouses on City of Fernie property have also been closed.

Downtown Garbage Bins
To protect staff, garbage bins that are collected by hand in the downtown area will no longer be emptied during this ongoing health emergency. Please use one of the 24/7 bear proof bins located throughout town or bring your garbage to the Transfer Station.

City Parks & Trails 

City parks and trails remain open, but the public is asked to follow provincial directives regarding gatherings and to practice appropriate physical distancing. Bylaw Enforcement Officers will be patrolling public spaces to ensure compliance with provincial directives.
