Frozen Water Line Prevention

With a period of colder temperatures in the forecast, the City of Fernie would like to remind residents to be aware of the risk of frozen waterlines, and some of the steps you can take to prevent this from affecting your home.

Every winter, when temperatures drop, some Fernie households will experience frozen water lines.

Often, frozen water lines can be prevented by taking simple steps such as installing a bleeder valve or leaving a tap running in your home.  Keeping a continuous flow of water into your home is the best way to prevent your water service from freezing when the line is exposed to frost.  This is especially important for residents who are out of town over the winter and are unable to monitor their water lines.
