TransCanada Donates Truck to City of Fernie

The City of Fernie Fire Department will receive a used fleet vehicle from TransCanada. The truck is being gifted to the Fire Department to support Emergency Support Services (ESS) and operations within the department, and is being donated as part of TransCanada's Community Investment Efforts in the focus area of Safety.
In 2018, the Fire Department used grant funding from the Union of BC Municipalities, as well as Community Partner Funding from Teck, Red Cross, and the Regional District of East Kootenay, to create an ESS trailer outfitted with items to assist responders and the community in the event of a disaster. An application was submitted by the Fire Department to TransCanada because of a need to have a vehicle dedicated to moving the ESS trailer around the Elk Valley.
“The donation of this truck is a huge boost for not only our Fire Department, but the whole Elk Valley,” explains Fernie Fire Chief Ted Ruiter, “ It allows us to be more responsive in an emergency situation by improving our ability to quickly get our ESS trailer to any area in the Valley where help is needed.”
Representatives from TransCanada will be in Fernie on Wednesday, November 6 at 1pm to present the new truck to the Fire Department.
