AQUATIC ATTENDANT

Casual (No Guaranteed Hours)

The City of Fernie is now accepting applications for the un-benefited position of Casual Aquatic (Recreation) Attendant. This position has no guaranteed hours and is classified as Schedule B in accordance with current CUPE 2093 contract.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Principle responsibilities are to control safe access to the water slide, Wibit, and any other Aquatic Program equipment being operated. Must perform routine janitorial and slide maintenance tasks in the Aquatic Centre. An employee in this position is under the general direction of the Aquatic Supervisor who is under direction of the Manager of Parks and Recreation.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Check the water slide and ensure that the slide is in good working order.
  • Identifies slide concerns in the Pool Log – notifies supervisor of immediate problems or concerns.
  • Opens the water slide to the public and controls the public’s descent down the water slide. Ensures that all safety and            behavioral standards are met.
  • Provides information to the public and answers inquiries concerning programs, services, events, and other facility       bookings.
  • Assists other aquatic staff in their performance of their duties, as required.
  • Sets up rooms, leads activities, and clean-up as required for Aquatic Centre sponsored birthday parties.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bronze Cross
  • Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ (or equivalent).
  • Minimum Grade 10
  • Additional aquatic orientated qualifications will be considered an asset to this position.

ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to maintain pleasant and effective relations with the public and employees of the City, even in adverse conditions.
  • Must have the ability to control the entrance to a facility by the public in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Must have the ability to control public conduct in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Must have the ability to perform janitorial tasks and simple maintenance tasks with regards to the water slide.

 

The Aquatic Attendant position is casual with no guaranteed hours or benefits.  The rate of pay for this position is $18.15 per hour in accordance with the current CUPE Collective Agreement.
