Canada Day: Reconciliation Walk and Community Celebration

July 1, 2022 (10:00am - 2:30pm)

On July 1, Join the Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡI ‘it First Nation and the City of Fernie for a Reconciliation Walk and ceremony. The walk will start at 10:00am at City Hall with a ceremonial flag raising. The walk will make its way though downtown before ending at the Aquatic Centre for a short ceremony and speeches followed by traditional drum dancing.

Following the walk and ceremony, that day will transition to Canada Day festivities beginning with the singing of O Canada to kick off an afternoon of live music featuring local musicians.

The afternoon festivities will also include a bike parade, crafts, games, activities, the Mountain Market and a free swim for children.

Event starts with a Reconciliation Walk to the Aquatic Centre with Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡI ‘it First Nation.

10:30 - 11:30am Aquatic Centre
Speeches, Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡI ‘it traditional drumming, and dancing on stage.

11:30am - 3:30pm
Live music on stage and cupcakes.
