Background

In the summer of 2018, B.A. Blackwell (forestry consultants) were retained by the City of Fernie to
develop fuel management prescriptions for various interface areas within the City’s municipal boundary. The proposed treatment areas (Ridgemont and Cedars) were identified as high priority for fuel management in the City of Fernie Community Wildfire Protection Plan 2016 Update.

The Open House will provide residents with project specifics and technical experts will be on hand to answer any questions.

Objectives of Fuel Management Prescription Program

1. To reduce the wildfire risk to the City of Fernie and protect wildlife, recreational, ecological and aesthetic values of the sites;

2. To enhance the ability of the British Columbia Wildfire Service and the City of Fernie Fire Department to protect property, infrastructure and adjacent values at risk;

3.  To reduce the potential rate of spread and intensity of the areas under prescription.
