Council to Consider Fire Hall Contract Award
June 9, 2026
Following the Supreme Court of BC’s decision on Monday dismissing the petition regarding the selected Fire Hall site at 1500–5th Avenue (a portion of Prentice Park), the City has added a late item to tonight’s Council agenda to consider awarding the contract for construction of the new Fire Hall. The decision affirms the City followed a fair and reasonable process and removes any legal barriers to proceeding with construction of this urgently needed facility.
At tonight’s meeting, Council will consider awarding a negotiated fixed‑price construction contract of $14.33 million to Chandos Construction LP. This follows extensive planning, technical work, and completion of the final design for a purpose‑built facility that meets current and future community needs. The total project remains within the approved $16 million budget, which also includes already completed design work, site servicing and insurance, planned upgrades to a ball diamond at James White Park, and a 5% contingency.
With Council approval, the City is prepared to execute the contract and begin construction later this month, with an operational fire hall anticipated by fall 2027.
