City Provides $8,900 in Grant Funding to Community Organizations

Each year the City’s Discretionary Grant program supports community organizations that provide beneficial programs, services, and projects in Fernie. In 2026 a second intake was opened to better fit the needs of the community and the groups that are applying.
The City is proud to provide $8,900 to support the following groups and initiatives:
- Elk Valley Family Society $2,000
Funds will be used to create a head lease model for structured partnerships with key community organizations to secure occupancy and align house access with workforce needs.
- Everyone Plays Fernie $750
Funds will be used to buy balls, mats, and balance accessories for a 7-week pilot program for kids ages 5-7.
- Fernie Ghostriders $3,000
Funds will be used toward the costs of asbestos evaluation and remediation in the team’s shower facilities.
- Fernie Outdoor Rinks Society $1,150
Funds will go towards annual insurance costs and buying operating tools and equipment.
- Outdoor Connections $2,000
Funds will be used to buy a new portable shelter/warming hut for the children who attend Outdoor Connections.
The next intake for Discretionary Grants opens fall 2026.
