2026 General Local Election Advance Voting Today

The 2026 General Local Election will be held on October 17, 2026. The first advance voting opportunity is today, October 7. The next advance voting date will be October 14, 2026. The polling station is located at the Fernie Senior Citizens Drop-in Centre (562 3rd Avenue, Fernie, BC) and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on voting days.

Electors will be voting for one Mayor, six Councillors, and one School Trustee. The School Trustee voting area differs from the Mayor and Council voting area. Eligible electors in both the City of Fernie and Trustee Electoral Area 1 of the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Electoral Area A vote for the office of School Trustee.

Elections officials will be visiting Trinity Lodge, Tom Uphill Manor, Elk Valley Hospital, and Rocky Mountain Village next week to provide a special voting opportunity to facility residents and admitted patients.

Resident electors must produce two pieces of identification, at least one of which must contain a signature. Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

Non-resident property electors must produce two pieces of identification, at least one of which must contain a signature, to prove identity; proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property; and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the majority of the property owners.
