Ridgemont Area Water Service Interruption, Water Quality Advisory, and Road Closure

The City of Fernie is completing an urgent water main repair in the Ridgemont neighbourhood that will require a temporary water service interruption, water quality advisory, and a short-term road closure.

The work will begin on November 19, 2025 and is expected to be completed by November 21. The Water Quality Advisory is expected to remain in effect for the area until November 26.

Water Service Interruption:

Nov 19 & 20, 8:30am–6:00pm
Homes in the affected area (see map) will experience temporary loss of water service.

Residents may wish to store water ahead of the planned interruption. Consider filling buckets or other containers with drinking water. Additionally, you may wish to fill your bathtub to maintain an extra supply of water for general use. After service is restored, cloudy water can be cleared by running a cold tap at the lowest point in the home.

Water Quality Advisory:

Starting Nov 19, expected until Nov 26.
Residents are advised that water quality may be impacted during and after the repair. Ridgemont will be under a water advisory until we receive notice that water quality is restored, approximately 1 week.

While health risks are considered low, the City of Fernie and Interior Health recommend that children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and anyone seeking additional protection drink boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. For these at-risk populations, water intended for drinking, washing fruits or vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.

Road Closure:

Ridgemont Dr & Ridgemont Cres closed from Nov 19, 8:30am to Nov 21, 6:00pm
There will be a full road closure at the corner of Ridgemont Drive and Ridgemont Crescent to support the work. Ridgemont residents will need to access their houses from 4th Street and 13th Street as necessary. Please respect signage and allow crews to safely and efficiently complete the repairs. Access accommodation will be made for residents within the work zoneSee attached road closure map.

We understand that these repairs and the resulting service interruptions may cause inconvenience and appreciate your patience and cooperation as our crews work to complete this as quickly and safely as possible.
