Notice of Disposition - Lease and Operating Agreement for Field House Project

The City of Fernie and the Elk Valley Field House Society are taking an exciting next step toward bringing a new indoor recreation facility to our community. On October 28, 2025 Council approved a lease and operating agreement with the Elk Valley Field House Society, enabling construction and long-term operation of the proposed Field House on the site of the existing outdoor rink, beside the Aquatic Centre. Council also directed staff to expedite the permit application, marking a major step towards expanding Fernie’s recreation opportunities and meeting growing community needs.
In addition to a 60-year lease for the lands, accompanying operating agreement, and prioritized permitting, the City has previously committed $525,000 of Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) funding to support the Field House project. Through the operating agreement, the Society will be the lead for funding, construction, and management of the facility.
