Frozen Water Line Prevention

With cold temperatures looking likely to stick around for the week, our public works team would like to remind you of some simple steps you can take to prevent frozen pipes:

  •  Switch on your bleeder valve, or contact a plumber to install one.
  •  Insulate exposed pipes to reduce heat loss and regulate line temperature.
  •  Seal any cracks or holes near water lines to eliminate cold air sources.
  • During extreme cold weather conditions, you can avoid burst pipes by:
  •  Letting faucets trickle to maintain a continuous flow of water.
  •  Opening kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around plumbing.
  •  Keeping your home heated at a steady, warm temperature.
  •  Using heating tape to warm exposed lines.

If you suspect you have a frozen water service, always call a plumber first to inspect your lines and help with the thawing process.
