Volunteer Opportunity: Design Review Panelist

The City of Fernie invites residents who want to make a difference within their community to apply to serve as a member on the Design Review Panel.

Panel members commit to meeting monthly and are responsible for making recommendations to the Director of Planning on the design merits of Development Permit applications, including buildings, site development and the physical and aesthetic impact of proposed development plans.

The goal of the panel is to promote and uphold standards of design excellence throughout the community by considering the form and character of development proposals, and deliver recommendations based on standards outlined in ‘Schedule S – Design Guidelines’ of the Official Community Plan.

Panelists shall be comprised from members of the community-at-large, ideally representing:

  • Architecture and Landscape Design, Urban and Land Use Planning
  • Civil Engineering and Land Surveying
  • Heritage Planning
  • Building Construction
  • Knowledge in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CEPTED)

This is a non-paid volunteer position and members participate primarily in an advisory capacity to the Planning Department.
