New EV Chargers Ready for Use

New Electric Vehicle charging stations are now available at City Hall and at the Visitor Information Centre.

Four Level 2 charging stations are active at the Visitor Information Centre, and five at City Hall. The Flo Network Level 2 charging stations provide up to 30 km of range per hour of charging (depending on car models) and are compatible with all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle models.

These stations have been installed as part of the grant-funded "Journey to Iconic Fernie" project, which aims to enhance visitor and resident experience in Fernie. These chargers support drivers and encourage visits to local amenities such as the shops and restaurants downtown, and hiking & biking trailheads at the Visitor Centre. Funding for this work was provided by the Province of British Columbia under the Tourism Dependent Community Fund.

To ensure that EV charging is widely accessible to drivers the cost will only be $1.30 per hour up to four hours. To help prevent overstays at these stations, after four hours, the per hour cost will increase.

Below are a few helpful guidelines to ensure a positive experience for all EV drivers:

  • Only park in an EV-designated charging stall if you’re charging, or waiting to charge.
  • Don’t unplug another vehicle.
  • When you’re done, neatly put the charging cord away so that people don’t trip or drive over it.
  • Keep the stations tidy.

The "Journey to Iconic Fernie" project was developed in collaboration with Tourism Fernie, the Community Energy Association, and the Chamber of Commerce, with additional support from the Fernie Trails Alliance.
