Terry Cryderman Receives George Majic Spiritus Award

Well-loved Fernie local Terry Cryderman has been awarded the 2021 the George Majic Spiritus Award, given by Mayor Qualizza at a special ceremony on December 21, 2021.

This award is presented annually in memory of George S. Majic to a person or group who have demonstrated a constant and ongoing commitment to our community through their love of Fernie.

Terry Cryderman has been an active community member since arriving in Fernie more than 40 years ago, devoting many years to coaching and refereeing hockey, and to the Fernie Golf Club Executive, while also working full-time and raising his family.

Terry founded the Fernie Trekkers group, guiding seniors and locals on bi-weekly hikes and snowshoeing excursions, accommodating the abilities of over 50 followers. Terry also volunteers at the annual income tax clinic, preparing free tax returns for low-income members of the Fernie community. He organizes weekly card games at the Seniors Centre and is a member of the Old Growth Hockey Club, which raised $750 for Angel Flight at the end of 2020.

Mayor Qualizza says, “I want to congratulate Mr. Cryderman for his commitment to the community, the George S Majic award is special, it recognizes quiet community leaders for their support and leadership, people who volunteer without any expectation of reward. Mr. Cryderman does exactly that, it was an absolute pleasure getting to know Mr. Cryderman and seeing how he supports Fernie is so many ways.

It is truly an honour to celebrate and recognize Mr. Cyderman for making Fernie a better place.”

The City of Fernie congratulates Terry Cryderman on his impressive commitment to the Fernie community.
