City of Fernie Receives Recognition Award from Wood WORKS! BC

The City of Fernie is honoured to receive a 2021 Community Recognition Award from Wood WORKS! BC for it’s use of wood to repair roof trusses at the Fernie Memorial Arena.

This province-wide award is presented annually to communities that have been exemplary advocates for wood in community projects and/or through developing policies that strongly encourage wood use.

“The City applied an innovative massive timber approach to improving safety at the Arena,” says Brett Logan, Director of Parks, Facilities and Recreation, adding, “We’re proud to have received this award and to extend the life of this popular facility.”

The use of wood in design and construction is recognized as the material of choice to create natural, sustainable structures that reduce carbon impacts and increase building performance.
