City of Fernie Encourages Flood Preparedness

As part of ongoing emergency preparedness efforts, the City of Fernie is encouraging residents to sign up for the Regional Evacuation Notification System.

Powered by Voyent Alert! the notification system keeps communities informed in case of evacuation orders or alerts during critical events such as wildfires, floods, or hazardous materials incidents.

With a Rainfall Warning in effect from Tuesday, November 30, through Wednesday, December 1, the City of Fernie is recommending residents be aware and prepared. Coal Creek experienced erosion in several locations during the November 14th rainfall event, and as such, it is more susceptible to flooding.

On the evening of Tuesday, November 30, 2021, Fernie Fire and Emergency Services will be hand delivering registration information to neighbourhood residents starting in the lower-lying areas of town that are more susceptible to flooding events but are encouraging the whole community to sign up for notifications.
