Spring Freshet Preparation

The City of Fernie forms a Flood Response Committee each spring during freshet, when water levels in our rivers and streams rise due to spring run-off. The Committee ensures we are monitoring river levels and forecasts, and that we are prepared to activate our Flood Response Plan. -
Planned Grass Burn at Wastewater Lagoons

The City of Fernie and the BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a planned grass burn on May 21 at the wastewater lagoons site on Thompson Road. -
Category 3 Open Fire to be Prohibited Effective May 21, 2026

Effective at 1:00 p.m. (MDT) on Thursday, May 21, 2026, Category 3 open fire will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, including Fernie and area. This prohibition is being enacted to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.
