Be Bear Aware!

We live in wonderful natural setting and with that comes responsibilities to prevent encounters with wildlife.  The recent incident of a grizzly bear breaking into a home in Kimberley reminds us to be prepared. .

Encountering wildlife is not unusual in our community. Keeping garbage stored until collection day and away from wildlife (per Waste Regulation Bylaw No. 1845) helps prevent property damage, increases safety and avoids the unnecessary killing of bears that come into conflict with people.  Remember - garbage, birdseed and pet foods on your property attract bears and increases the potential for wildlife conflicts.  Don't be part of the problem by baiting bears into the community with easy access to food rewards.
