Description:

The City of Fernie is inviting applications for the casual part time position of Municipal Clerk I.

PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Director of Fire and Emergency Services, the Municipal Clerk I will perform a variety of duties of a general nature relating to administrative support for assistance with the City of Fernie Emergency Program as well as the grant funded Fuel Management Program. This position will be collaborating with the Emergency Program Coordinator and the Fuel Management Project Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Routine general office duties such as photocopying, typing, filing, sorting and tabulating;

• Provides content to the Communications Coordinator to assist with news or media releases, public presentations, and project specific public signage.

• Works with the Communications Coordinator to update project information on the City’s website, online engagement site and website and social media as determined, under the guidance of the Communications Coordinator.

• Assist with records management, emergency plans and updates, planning and facilitating staff training, minute taking and providing assistance with the delivery of public presentations on emergency preparedness

• Perform a variety of duties of a general nature relating to administrative support for fuel management planning and prescriptions.

• Other duties as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications include the knowledge and experience brought to the job which are needed to perform the job satisfactorily:

• Grade 12 supplemented by some relevant business/commercial/accounting courses or equivalent relevant job experience; protective services / emergency management.

• Basic typing (55 wpm) skills.

• Computer data entry and word processing skills required.

• Knowledge of the Emergency Program Act and Local Authority Emergency Management Regulations

• The successful applicant will receive a general overview of FireSmart practices and principles as well as a fuel management overview to allow for a basic understanding of the work to be undertaken.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in an office environment with extended periods sitting at a computer station.
