Dear Sir.- I am a Spanish 51, of Huelva, a small town in southern Spain, which has a great passion: the heraldry of municipalities, counties, countries, .... This made a few years ago started collecting pins ( metal badges, ties clip, needles, too) representing the heraldic shields of the counties, districts, towns and villages in the world. (Only in heraldic form.)

just had 3weeks holiday in fernie at my daughters helping out with moving to new home
throughly enjoyed my stay having socialised with some great residents who i look forward to meeting again in july when i return to tour bc on a motorcycle everyone i met in fernie were allways friendly and helpful having seen the area around fernie during november which looked as if it was a film set with snow capped mountains i now am looking fotward to seeing fernie in the summer which apparently also looks fabulous can recomend fernie for holidays/vacations have a great time |

| I am a granddaughter of Charles Fraser Maddick who was an employee around 1920. One of my aunts was born in Fernie. Does anyone have any information on how to get copies of the old butcher shop? Also of the old Salvation Army building as his wife, Carrie, was baptized into a Salvation Army family. Both were born in Newfoundland. Charles Fraser was also a member of the IOOF. My workplacement was at Tom Uphill Memorial Home & we did Education Activity Day at Youth Centre in downtown & we did some community projects there.

| My grandfather was Lawrence M. Proctor. He lived in Fernie from 1898-1908. He was secretary of the Fernie Lumber Co. It burned to the ground with the rest of the town, including his house in the great fire of 1908. He was out of a job and home. | A week ago some of my family went to Fernie as they do every year for the skiing, When leaving one of the night spots in Fernie, local people were hollering "we don't want you people here" and fight broke out 2 guy to one, my newphew got a large chunk of his ear bitten off, luckly they were able to sew it back on. | Met someone today who introduced me to "Fernie". His father was first Baby registered in 1899 in Fernie and was named Fernie after the town. He suggested I Google "Fernie" - which I did. | Cow on Coal Creek Road |
| We were in Fernie a week ago and took a drive up Coal Creek Road. About 10km up the road, there was a large animal on the edge of the road. It turned out to be an all-black cow (Aberdeen Angus?) with a red tag on its ear. I have been wondering ever since what a cow was doing way up there and if someone was missing one. I wanted to let someone know but couldn't figure out who. |

| We resided in Fernie 1973 - 1993. Our children were raised there & found Fernie a great place to raise them. I have to say we enjoyed the 20 yrs we spent there, although I have to admit even though we skiied, the snow became a bit much at times. We haven't returned for some time & now that retirement is close we may just do that to see all changes that have taken place. |

| Know that my Grandfather Charles F. Maddick was a butcher for Burns Meats back in 1920. An Aunt was born there as well. Is there anyone that has knowledge of that period ? I have been researching for the last couple of years. They came from Newfoundland. He died on Mom's fifth birthday, so she never new him well at all.

| I just picked up the latest copy of British Columbia magazine because on the front cover was BEST OF FERNIE! I had to check it out and wow, has it ever changed. | Hey, I lived in Fernie from about 1975 till 1985. We left to live in the States, Wisconsin. I loved living in Fernie and miss it a lot. If any who went to school during that time, I would love to hear from you and what you are up to these days. I still have an Uncle that lives in Fernie, and hope soon to make make a trip back to Fernie.

| We have just returned to South Wales after 10 days in Fernie. We would like to thank you for your hospitality and friendly attitude to visitors. we stayed at the Lizard Creek where the service was first class. The snow comditions were excellent, but above all everybody we met was genuinely concerned that we were enjoying our stay. Thank you again - we will be returning to your beautiful town. |

| Will the DMO advertise that you need 4 wheel drive to get around the city's streets? Will they tell you to travel to Fernie only with friends so you have someone to push your car when you get stuck on Main Street because the city hasn't plowed? |

| We just heard today of the deaths of Lloyd Phillips.
Lloyd was a reporter, photographer and editor of The Free Press while it was published by me and my wife-1963-75.
I would like to express our regrets and sympathy to their family and all those who knew this wonderful ranching couple. Lloyd was supremely honest, ethical and remarkable newsman. A highly respected citizen of Elk Valley. |

| This may not be the place to direct this question...if someone could direct me to the correct person/place, I would be appreciative.
...Is the reason for the lack of festivities and the minimal advertsiement and the activity in those advertised, due to a lack of interest in Fernie for such events, lack of particpation, a need for organizers, or other reasons?
An example...the July 21st event downtown...led me to discover no musicians, many storeowners unaware of an event, and no ambiance in the streets, as I had envisioned; the Sunday Market place and adverts suggesting musicians, entertainment, etc....lovely as are the tables that are there.
Curious, and wondering if this is alterable for the Fernie community? |
